But the best stories featuring blind characters aren’t necessarily stories about blindness. They’re about surviving alien invasions. Fighting gods. Uncovering conspiracies. Learning magic. Saving kingdoms. Becoming superheroes. They’re also about strength, resilience, friendship, and discovering what you’re capable of when everything is stacked against you.

Our job as authors is not to make our characters’ lives easy. Who wants to read that? Our job is to provide them with learning opportunities. Preferably painful ones.

Some books are meant to be read once. Others get dragged through life with us, collecting cracked spines, coffee stains, and enough emotional baggage to qualify as family.

There’s just something magical about a space adventure packed with too many dysfunctional personalities inside one very breakable spaceship.
